| International Miss Youth Development Program
|
|
International Miss is truly a program in a league of its own. Having been in existence for the past 15 years, "IM" offers something for every little girl and young lady alike. Unlike other beauty pageants, "IM" offers a year round program for its participants. The competition is only a small portion of the program. International Miss was designed to promote self esteem, confidence and inspire participants to achieve their goals.
National Directors, Mike & Dot Brown have been leaders in the field of Youth Development for over 30 years. They first became involved in pageantry as parents of a contestant when their daughter developed an interest in competition. After supporting her in numerous programs, they soon realized how much she had benefited from the competition and how she had grown & developed.
Though the competition proved beneficial, they soon realized what she loved most was the interaction with the friends she made from across the country as well as the special activities in which she participated. They quickly realized these experiences should be shared with other children. Thus; International Miss was born.

Throughout the developmental stages of International Miss, there were several specific goals that were set to be achieved.
PROGRAM BENEFITS ALL PARTICIPANTS The first goal was to provide a program in which any little girl could participate. Any child who wished, could play an instrumental part in the program, just by participating. Participation alone would qualify contestants to be part of all of the year round activities. The benefits of the program were to be had by all participants, not just the queen.
WHOLESOME / FAMILY ORIENTED IM also wanted to provide a wholesome, family oriented program. This included providing activities in which family participation is strongly encouraged and promoting a wholesome image of the participants. Keeping in line with a wholesome image, "IM" strongly encourages age appropriateness for all participants. This includes the activities in which they are involved as well as the image they portray. The "IM" philosophy is that children should look like children. Of course, particpants are encouraged to take pride in their appearance and grooming. However, they should not look as if they are playing "dress up." "IM" also discourages suggestive garments and routines. Garments that show the midriff and swimsuits are prohibited on every level of competition. Though make-up is allowed for all divisions except the babies, it should only be used to enhance the participants beauty and not change their look. "IM" suggests that the young divisions use make-up only on stage to prevent "washing out" under the lights.
TOTAL PACKAGE Promoting the wholesome, well rounded girl was also a major factor. She did not have to be the most beautiful, the best dressed, the most talented or the best communicator. She simply needed to have a little bit of everything; the program would promote the "total package" young lady. A young lady that could be any "girl next door" with poise, talent and leadership abilities.
DEVELOPING SELF ESTEEM & CONFIDENCE THROUGH COMPETITION
